I'm exporting a portion of the feature film, just to see how it looks.

.....but I'm not sure if I'm willing to sit here through the 4 hour estimated export time.  Ugh.  The two parts of the editing process that I REALLY don't like, are the waits for rendering and the waits for exporting.  The results of those waits are always worth it, but it just takes so mind-numbingly long to percolate through the system that you can't just sit there and wait, you have to go and read a Dickens novel instead (I'm working through David Copperfield right now).  Speaking of Dickens, I just got a Kindle for my B-day last week...pretty cool piece of tech!  I was using that for a large part of the drive to DC!

Anyways, back to exporting.  And grilling.  It's my brother's birthday, so I'm grilling hotdogs for lunch.  Until later, take care everyone!

I'm back from Maryland!  Silverdocs was amazing....what an experience!  We were at Silverdocs all day Saturday.  I was on a youth filmmaker panel early in the morning, and we didn't leave until after midnight!!

I screened my ArtPrize short at the youth panel, which went really well!  The audience seemed to like it, which is always nice!  I've never been on a 'panel' like that before, so it was completely new to me.  I think I did well, though...didn't freeze up or anything.  The other panelists were great too....I was really surprised at the quality of some of their films!  After the panel we saw three documentaries ('Where Soldiers Come From', 'Our School', and 'To Be Heard'), all of which were very moving.  (I can't wait to see them again on Netflix!)

I think the best part of the entire festival, for me, was the networking.  I was able to meet and connect with so many filmmakers & people in one day, I'm still having a hard time processing it all!  To meet people from Iraq, Africa, Ireland, and from all over the US, was a great experience.  I was a bit surprised, and greatly appreciative, that so many of the directors and filmmakers were willing to hold conversation with me, a high school student!  I was able to hear their views on the films, receive feedback on a few of my own ideas, and otherwise get to know them and their projects!  It was great fun, and it really gave one a personal connection with the don't get that every day!

There was a great sense of solidarity among the filmmakers....and it was very encouraging.  I've had a hard time deciding whether I want to go into film or not as a career, and I'm still not sure...but Silverdocs was making a pretty interesting and strong case for it.

Seeing as I'm posting past midnight (not sure why the timestamp on the bottom says otherwise), after driving 12 hours....I'm going to wait on a long post until tomorrow, just to make sure that it's all coherent and legible.  I took plenty of pictures, so I'll be posting those too!

Take care everyone!

I won Shortie! ArtPrize Registration...

As you may've seen on the Twitter sidebar, I won the Shortie Awards 15-18 Documentary category!  Very, very, exciting!  This means that mom and I are driving out to Silver Springs, MD, on next Friday, June 24th, for the Silverdocs Film Festival!!!  Here's a link to the Shortie Awards winner page...

Also, here's the copy of my video they uploaded.  Give it a thumb's up!

And, finally, here's the Silverdocs conference that I'll be attending...

I'm receiving an Industry Pass to the festival, which means that I get into ANY of the films getting screened....pretty sweet deal.  There are a few films I saw on the program that I'm really looking forward to...'Revenge of the Electric Car,' 'Life in a Day,' and a few others.  Should be a blast!

I'll be taking my camera to Silverdocs, so expect pictures!

Lastly, ArtPrize registration ends at 5:00 tonight.  That's only about 30mins!  If you're an artist, and haven't registered yet, this is a great opportunity!

Shortie Awards

Hey all!

As you may have read in a previous post, my short ArtPrize film is screening in the 'Shortie Awards' film festival in the DC area.  Since I'm in Michigan, it wasn't that practical for me to go out there, so I'm watching it from home.  That brings me to my next point, you can watch the festival too!!  Embedded below is the live stream of the fest.  It's going live from roughly now (2:30 PM) to 5 or 5:30 PM.  If you have a good internet connection, feel free to join me in watching the fest.

Google +1

Hey all!  Quick note.

You should see a little Google +1 button on the botton right of all my site's posts.  It's rather like the Facebook 'like' button.  So, if you have a Google account, you can 'like' (rather, +1) my posts.

That's it, just a quick site change.
