David Huang Installation

On Thursday David Huang installed his piece at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.  It took roughly three hours to get the lighting right, but it was well worth the wait!  I took several (70?) photos, these are some of the best ones...

I was very happy to be at the installation, filming and taking pictures, especially because there is now a plexiglass box on top of the vessel (for security), and the photos wouldn't be as good after that.

About the piece.  If you haven't read my last post about David's entry, here are some cool facts.

David has told me that it took him over a million hammer blows, in eight months, to make this piece.  Imagine hitting this a million times!

The inside of the vessel is made with 23 karat gold, which reflects light so effectively that it looks as if it's lit from the inside.  The entire piece is detailed to fine jewelry level.

Come down to the Grand Rapids Public Museum to see this piece during ArtPrize (you can actually see it already)!  Here's David's 'up vote' number: 37931.

I have some video editing to do, so stay tuned!
